€2,500 raised for Wicklow Hospice as Dovida treks Great Sugar Loaf

Employees from our Wicklow office and a group of local people have trekked the county’s iconic Great Sugar Loaf Mountain for the Dovida Wicklow Hospice fundraiser.

The event saw about 25 people join together under clear blue skies at ‘Hospice Base Camp’ before hiking the 501 metre-high peak to raise almost €2,500 for the hospice, which provides an invaluable service to those in its In-Patient Unit and to people in their homes through its specialist Community Palliative Care Team.

Wicklow Hospice also helps families, loved ones, and caregivers cope during what can be very difficult and emotionally challenging times.

“We were inspired by messages from families who have had a positive experience with the Wicklow Hospice during very difficult times,” said Michael Lowe, General Manager of Dovida Wicklow.

Amazing group of people

“What they do down in Magheramore is just incredible. The hospice provides a service that is free to the user, and they rely solely on fundraising for certain things like a new bus and specialised equipment to help some of the patients there. It’s a fantastic job they do, and they have wonderful people working for them. They are an amazing group of people.

“We just wanted to do our small part in helping to raise funds for hospice to support the vital work they do to help people in our community. It was a great day, and I’d like to thank everyone who came to the top with us and everyone who has donated to the Dovida Wicklow Hospice fundraiser so far, and, of course, our leader, Carmel, for looking after us throughout the day,” said Michael.
