Romana Bencetic | Dovida Live-in
Romana Bencetic was born and raised in Zagreb, Croatia, where she worked as a nurse and a healthcare assistant.

She credits her education with giving her the knowledge and skills to work as a Live-in Caregiver with Dovida and her upbringing with instilling a passion for caring as a vocation. We caught up with her ahead of Dovida Culture Week to find out more about her journey and life in her beloved Croatia.
“I just love helping people. It is my calling, and if I was to live this life over, I would choose it again.”
How did your background influence your career choices?
From an early age, I liked to help animals and all living beings. I carried that empathy and desire to help others into my career as a caregiver, especially for children with additional needs and older people. It all started with my grandfather and grandmother, who nurtured me until their last moment.
I also bring the culture of education from Croatia to my work. We have many distinguished professors and teachers, and I learned a lot from them. And we are always willing to learn and try new ways of doing things.
I just love helping people. It is my calling, and if I was to live this life over, I would choose it again.
Tell us a bit more about Croatia
My homeland is special and unique. In Croatia, you will meet people who will always help you, no matter what kind of trouble befalls you. People work a lot and earn little, and despite all the problems, they always manage to stay positive, cheerful and smiling.
Croatia is a treasure of rich history, diverse culture and art, unique customs and traditions. You will not only find good people here, but you can also see a lot of things. Nature did not save, she gave us the most beautiful mountains, hills and plains, rivers and lakes. Wherever you go, you will see something unique and unrepeatable.
If I were to visit and see all the countries of this world, Croatia would still be my home, for me, the most beautiful and the best in the world.
