Meet Bridget McGrath, General Manager of Dovida Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and of the shortlistees in the Manager of the Year category at the 2025 HCCI Home Care Awards.

Who is Bridget?

Bridget’s journey from frontline carer to General Manager is nothing short of inspirational. With over a decade of dedication, she now leads a team of 16 people across two offices and three counties, Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon.

Bridget is chatty, eager and a true people person. Her diverse background, ranging from the fire brigade to the pub trade and then healthcare, brings a unique depth to her leadership.

Bridget holds qualifications in health care and leadership and has guided her team to many milestones always striving for innovation and staff development. She also contributes her time to local volunteer efforts for charity initiatives such as, Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons and IMNDA. Her career is marked by grit, passion, and a consistent drive to improve the lives of others.

Bridget exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding leader through her tireless work ethic, clear vision, and strong emotional intelligence. Her “can-do-now” attitude inspires action and confidence across her team. When challenges arise, Bridget becomes more determined, always stepping up, never backing down.

She ensures staff feel supported, appreciated, and empowered, fostering a culture of trust and accountability. Her proactive approach to developing new services, particularly in rural areas, shows her commitment to client wellbeing, which, in turn, reduces family burnout. She is especially respected for her willingness to personally step in when needed, ensuring no service is ever compromised. Her leadership consistently drives both operational success and team morale.

Bridget constantly finds thoughtful and creative ways to show appreciation for her team. For Caregiver Appreciation Week last year, she came up with the idea to buy lunch in bulk and personally arrange for its delivery to 180 caregivers across Sligo, Leitrim, and Roscommon. Coordinating the logistics across three counties was no small task, but Bridget made sure every carer felt seen, valued, and celebrated. This gesture deeply resonated with the team, lifting morale and reinforcing a strong sense of community and recognition.

The HCCI Awards

The HCCI Awards, taking place this year in September, reward individuals for outstanding efforts and contributions in their roles. This year’s awards take place in Athlone on September 11th. Dovida is shortlisted in six categories. Three of those shortlisted, Michaela Byrne, Ryan Owen and Bridget McGrath, come from Dovida’s Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon office.
