Meet our Caregivers | Ryan Owen
Last Month, Dovida named Leitrim Caregiver, Ryan Owen its National Caregiver of the Year after initially being named both Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon and Connacht Caregiver of the Year.
Described as selfless and empathetic, Ryan from Glencar, Co. Leitrim joined Dovida’s Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon branch just over a year ago, and has made a significant contribution to the lives of those he cares for. Ryan recently told us in his own words about his work as a Caregiver.

When did you start working as a Caregiver?
I’ve been working as a caregiver for just over a year now. I was looking for a change in career and came across Dovida while job searching online. I knew a few people who had worked in similar roles and I had always wanted to try it myself. Dovida offered flexible work hours and the opportunity to work while you completed the necessary training. The whole process was very quick and for someone with no experience in the healthcare industry I was surprised at the level of training we received both online and in person in just a few short weeks. The training along with the process of shadowing a qualified caregiver on the job left me completely at ease by the time I began working with my own clients.

What does being a Caregiver Mean to you?
Being a caregiver has become an important part of my life. The friendships and connections I’ve made in the last year have really shown me the significant impact the role can have on both the client and the caregiver. Palliative care which I was initially hesitant to try has been incredibly eye opening and I’m truly grateful I had the opportunity to help and become friends with some really amazing people. My experience with Dovida over the last year has been very positive. We have a great team of caregivers working in our area and the direction and feedback from the office make it very easy for me to do my job. I’d definitely recommend Dovida to anyone interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
What do like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to get outdoors. Because I work primarily indoors, it’s nice to get out in nature and clear my head. I’ve always been into fitness, I do a lot of running and I’ve recently taken up tennis.
