Why Dovida? The reasoning behind the name change
– Michael Wright, Director of Corporate Operations at Dovida Ireland.
The rebrand to Dovida is a big event, impacting people who have worked here for many years on an emotional level, as well as our clients and the public. We all get attached to what we are familiar with, some of us more than others. Hence, it’s important to understand why we made the change, as well as the opportunities the rebrand affords.
The main reason behind our rebrand is our market is changing. Anyone, whatever their age, may need care and support from a professional home care organisation such as Dovida. Dovida’s clients are varied. We support children under the age of one and people over the age of 100. 10% of our clients are under 65, and 1% are under 18. Dovida is a universal brand, and we hope it appeals to all.
“Dovida reflects changing attitudes to individuality and purpose.”
Where does ‘Dovida’ come from?
Dovida is inspired by the Latin words for Home (Domus) and Life (Vida). Dovida provides services in different European countries, and the name Dovida resonates with people whose first language is something other than English.
Why the change?
As the average age of our clients shifts from the pre-war generation to baby boomers, Dovida reflects changing attitudes to individuality and purpose. Dovida’s brand promise “Your Life, Your Way” centres on our clients, rather than our ideas of what we think is best. Dovida’s private care services such as Live-in Care or Hosted Care are developed to help people face the emotional, physical and psychological challenges they find themselves in, whether from ageing, having experienced a life-changing accident or from living with a complex condition.
Dovida continues to assist thousands of people every day in Ireland with daily essentials such as helping them wash and dress. Dovida supports family carers with home-based respite and helps people reduce frailty by supporting them with exercise.
Dovida also aims to assist with life’s fundamentals. People who need our support want to maintain autonomy over their lives, they want to experience belonging, pursue happiness and find purpose. Our new mission, to support, empower and uplift people by putting them at the heart of every decision we make, provides a wonderful new opportunity for us to do so.
