HSE Home Support Services
If you qualify for HSE Home Support Services, you are entitled to certain support with everyday living activities which can help you to continue living at home.
What are HSE Home Support Services?
The HSE’s Home Support Services are individualised packages of community-based support aimed at helping people who need it remain living at home.
Typical supports provided include:
- Assistance getting in and out of bed
- Assistance dressing and undressing
- Personal care
- Assistance with mobility
- Medication reminders
HSE Home Support Services are funded by the State, and can be delivered free of charge to you by Approved Providers such as Dovida.
There is no means test or income assessment.
How can I apply for HSE Home Support Services?
You can apply for Home Support Services if you are at home, in hospital or in a nursing home and wish to return home.
Your Public Health Nurse, GP or another Health Care Professional may present you with an information booklet which contains an application form.
You can also download the Home Support Services Information Booklet & Application Form from the HSE’s website, or you can ask your local Home Support Office to send it to you.
You must fill in the application form and return it to your Health Care Professional or your local HSE Home Support Office.
If you are unable to apply yourself, someone such as a relative, GP or Public Health Nurse can complete it for you.
After the HSE receives your completed application form, the HSE will arrange a Care Needs Assessment to determine the kind of support you might need.
What if I want more care than the HSE provides?
Many people supplement their HSE Home Support Services with additional private care services also provided by Dovida.
You’ll receive a relationship-based, more flexible care service, and you can reduce any additional cost through the State’s Home Care tax relief scheme.
